Steve here. Thank you all for supporting our movie and helping to get the word out. Just got a call from Joe Tom Easley. He’s looking forward to making the DC opening this coming weekend. He’s anxious to reconnect with some of his fellow former Raiders and to speak with Ralph for the first time in many years. Even though Joe Tom has disagreed with Ralph about his recent foray into electoral politics, he still holds him in high esteem. One of the benefits of this film could be in offering an opportunity for many of these former allies to shake hands and let bygones be bygones.

Please tell your friends in Los Angeles and Boston and NY to catch the film before we close in those cities. In addition to DC, we’ve got Austin, Dallas, Honolulu, and Wilmington coming up this weekend. We don’t have Al Gore money behind us. We depend on you to spread the word!

Hi Everybody, Sorry we haven’t been on here as much as we should but thanks so much for coming. I guess I have been overwhelmed with the opening of “An Unreasonable Man”. We open in DC on Friday February 23 as well as Honolulu, Austin, Dallas and Wilmington, DE. I will be at the DC opening with Ralph so come on by and tell your friends!

It’s been interesting doing the Q and A. I covered the NYC shows last week-end and Steve and Lawrence O’Donnell covered LA and Pasadena, CA. I had great crowds. It’s interesting because when Ralph is there he gets all the questions and when he’s not, most of what I do is tell the audiences what he has said to others. Although I have say the occasional question comes in about how this movie came about in the first place.

Oddly enough, it was an idea for a sit-com. Steve had a development deal after his 9 years at “Everybody Loves Raymond” and I was so on board to help him with that. It was going to be a sit-com about a public interest office in DC with a consumer advocate. Are you laughing already? Anyway, to make a long story kinda short, it went nowhere but as I introduced him to all my friends and former colleagues, it became very obvious that we had to tell this story. So we started interviewing people, set up a very humble, cockroach-ridden, edit room in Echo Park, CA. We were a team of about 5. Kevin our producer and Ellie our do-everything-aspiring-actress gal worked on card tables in the kitchen. Our editor, Alexis was in the big room with the Final Cut Pro system that none of us were exactly sure how to use. But before we knew it we were in Sundance on a 3 and half hour cut that we got down to 2 hours 35 minutes for the festival. We actually called in another editor, Beth who helped Alexis and all of us to make this thing look like a real movie. After Sundance we shortened it to the length it is now, 2 hours and 2 minutes. But just so you know, without credits — it would be 1 hour, 59 minutes. Darn those credits.

So here we are going out to 40 cities. Please tell your friends.

I’m going to start talking on here every few days to catch you up on what’s going on. And I’m also going to work on Steve to come by and give his 2 cents!!!

Thanks for your patience. Check out all our reviews at RottonTomatoes.com.

The one thing that I learn again and again with showing this movie is that there is no middle ground with Ralph. Either people love him or hate him…. everyone has a definite opinion, so thanks for saying yours on here.

Thanks everyone for your comments. Apparently the Ralph haters haven’t found us yet so let’s cherish this time together! Opening week in NYC as been great. We have had pretty good crowds Thursday and Friday after our opening night was sold out for 3 shows! The usual arguments during the Q and A ensue but I have to say my favorite Q and A was yesterday when we had about 40 film/political science students from City College and NYU attended. Also mixed into that crowd were Senior Citizens. It gave me faith in the Youth and the Seniors of America. Not so much that they love or hate Ralph but that several of them said they felt inspired to get out become involved in everything from community social work to civic work right in the neighborhood of the theater. So that was nice.

Please listen to Amy Goodman on Democracy Now on Monday morning (Feb. 5). Ralph and I will be on.

Thanks and I will check in again as soon as I come up for breath from this opening week-end!! I’m bugging Steve to come say hi too, so I’m sure he will be here any minute. THANKS and tell your friends to come see AN UNREASONABLE MAN!!!! Bye, Henriette

In 1966, General Motors, the most powerful corporation in the world, sent private investigators to dig up dirt on Ralph Nader, an obscure thirty-two-year-old public interest lawyer, who had written a book critical of one of their cars, the Corvair. The scandal that ensued after the smear campaign was revealed, launched Ralph Nader into national prominence and established him as the leader of the modern Consumer Movement.

Over the next thirty years and without ever holding public office, Nader built a legislative record that rivals any contemporary president. Many things we take for granted including seat belts, airbags, product labeling, no nukes, even the free ticket you get after being bumped from an overbooked flight are largely due to the efforts of Ralph Nader and his citizen groups. Yet today, when most people hear his name, they think of the man who cost the Democrats the Presidential election. After sustaining his popularity and effectiveness over an unprecedented amount of time, he now has become a pariah even among former friends and allies.

An Unreasonable Man traces the life and career of Ralph Nader, one of the most unique, important, and controversial political figures of our time.
